I am writing to invite you to visit “Elemental,” a solo art exhibition featuring the work of Christine Goldbeck. The exhibit will be installed in the East Wing Rotunda through the month of January.

“Elemental” is a visual story of regional, rural places. Some of the works are painterly representations that bring to mind impressionism and abstract expressionism. Others are of a documentary nature. All but three of the images were made at locations in the Commonwealth or are based on photographs made in Harrisburg and in Bucks and Schuylkill counties. Goldbeck was born and raised, and still resides, in Schuylkill County.  Hers is a familiar face to many Members as she has worked in the House for the past 11 years.

Current Event, one of the images installed in this show, won “first in class” for black-and-white photography at the 2006 Bloomsburg Fair. Another, a color photograph called Summer Reflection, earned an honorable mention at the same event. Three images from her Post-Industrial Series, recording Schuylkill County’s coal mining heritage, are included in Elemental.  The Post-Industrial Series is both a record of what remains of the coal industry and a statement that art doesn’t have to depict beauty to have special meaning for viewers.

Goldbeck earned a Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts (MFA-IA) in new media art/humanities computing. A former photojournalist and legislative aide to the late Speaker of the House, Matthew J. Ryan, Goldbeck now works as a research analyst for the Republican Caucus. She is assigned to the House Local Government Committee. She is a published fiction writer and a Pennsylvania Humanities Council Commonwealth Speaker and book discussion facilitator.
